Counsellor Profile
I wanted to become a counsellor after working for many years in a variety of roles supporting people from all walks of life, people who had experienced domestic abuse, people with a history of homelessness, who had experienced severe mental ill health and young people in the care system. I wanted to offer one-to-one space for people to explore more deeply. I offer warmth, compassion and a non-judgemental approach for you to explore what is happening for you in a safe space. It's really important to me that people feel comfortable and accepted as they are and able to share freely any experience or feeling.
I am an integrative therapist and work with a strongly person centred approach, we are all unique and it is important to me that I fully understand you – I won’t advise or tell you what to do, but will offer empathy and acceptance to enable you to explore safely. I also work with the subconscious, often showing up as patterns that may keep repeating but are no longer helping you – this can be frustrating and you may feel like you are stuck. We can explore CBT – looking at the link between thoughts, feeling, behaviour and mood – and how we can look at changing these links so you feel better and more in control. We are equals in the counselling relationship and we will collaborate together and at your pace.
I feel our bodies and minds are very interconnected – we can feel our emotions physically, even when it can feel difficult to name them, or you may experience this the other way round. I find that physically grounding ourselves through our breath and body can be key to feeling safe and present in the moment.
